Define the publication decisions before automating them
We start with a representative product family and an engineering change tied to an agreed output. The proposed scope separates information that can be reused from information that an author needs to interpret. It also names who assesses a change and who approves its publication effect.
The interface contract records source objects, publication targets and ownership. It describes the selected revision relationships and the response to incomplete data. For example, an unresolved illustration reference should become a visible exception for review rather than pass unnoticed into the release process. We agree these acceptance cases before extending automation across the product structure.
Assess the publishing tools already in place
Teamcenter is not treated as a system without publishing functions. The sample needs source context and release rules
For scoping, we ask for material that lets engineering and publications trace the same change:
- The installed Teamcenter version and modules, with current integrations and publication architecture.
- A representative product structure, a recent engineering change and the publication expected to change.
- Bill-of-materials data and service-planning sources, plus illustration sources with object identifiers and access permissions.
- The contracted S1000D issue and program business rules where applicable.
- Output targets and applicability rules, with revision policy and named release owners.
Access limits and source gaps become scope decisions. We separate license ownership from platform administration and third-party implementation work so that an unavailable dependency does not become an unexplained publishing failure.
The agreed scope produces an operable handoff
We define deliverables around the representative publication rather than an isolated data transfer. The proposed delivery package includes:
- An engineering-to-publications interface contract with an ownership map.
- Configured mappings and triggers, with exception handling for the agreed data flow.
- A representative publication and evidence of its revision cycle.
- Output settings and validation reports, with a deployment and operations runbook.

Demonstrate the change and reproduce the release
We propose acceptance checks that follow the publication through a change, not just through a successful export:
- Compare the affected content with the expected impact of the sample engineering change.
- Inspect whether reused content retains the agreed engineering identifiers and revision relationships.
- Publish the selected configuration and applicability cases, then compare their content with the agreed expectations.
- Rebuild a prior released publication from its recorded source revisions and publishing settings.
The last check comes before broader automation. A successful latest-version publish can hide dependencies on source objects that have since changed. We agree what counts as a matching release and retain the comparison evidence with any unresolved exceptions.
A real change sample establishes readiness
Qualification establishes access to the source environment and ownership of the publication decision. Where either is missing, we scope that gap before configuration work. Interface design and output work remain distinct from user acceptance and production rollout.
